RE: Songs

Hotep: I would have to say that "KNOW THESE THINGS" and his cover of "THIS WOMANS WORK", they are both just simply deep!!Hotep!

"Till the cops come Knockin..." This song is and will probably always be my favorite Maxwell song. I really can't explain why, but I think it has to do with the fact that upon hearing the song, it was also the first time I laid eyes on Maxwell and submitted to his voice. I remember the day and the way I felt when I first heard "TTCCK". I was home watching "Video Vibrations". The video came on and as soon as I saw him I said, "Who in the world is that?" My friend said, "He looks like Wolverine." We both watched the video and the words to the song began to penetrate my heart. I really felt everything he said. I was so turned on by the fact that his love interest was a beautiful, black woman. She wasn't mixed, with hair flowing down her back. She looked like a strong, black sister. I was so impressed by that! I thought he was beautiful too and since that day I have been a loyal appreciator.

Alexis

"Suite Lady" and “Reunion”. "Suite Lady": The reason I feel this song has touched me, nothing really personal but it seems that whomever that song was meant to be sung to is really special *I wish I was that somebody* SMILE..."Reunion": Reminds me of my husband, something that would probably be our theme song if we ever reunited.

Mona

”Ascension: Don’t Ever Wonder” I really like that song because it says that you know I love you and you don't have to ever wonder. But to be truthful I really love all of Maxwell's songs. I think Maxwell is an excellent writer, artist, and most of all person. (A very excellent person). I just really love the music of Maxwell greatly.

I love all of Maxwell's songs but the one I love the most is "Whenever Wherever Whatever" It keeps me holding on. I know that "special someone" is out there somewhere. Every time I listen to it I smile because I know one day we will be together...”Whenever Wherever Whatever”

Genise

“Whenever Wherever Whatever”
When I first heard this song, it made me cry. And to this very day since the release of his first album to the release of his latest album, I still love Maxwell. I hope he continues with success. I love you Maxwell. Thank you for the inspiration, inspiration to love.

Tiffany

Maxwell has such a beautiful voice. Each song takes me to another place. It is much too hard to choose one song that I would say is my favorite. I love to listen to “Sumthin' Sumthin'” when I'm ready to dance and groove. I listen to “Submerge :Til We Become the Sun”, “Sumthin' Sumthin': Mellosmoothe” and “Suite Theme” when I want to mellow out and meditate. Every song invokes feelings and emotions that only Maxwell can invoke. I LOVE HIM...he is truly a master at what he does.

Brandi Neal

Personally, I like all of his songs because he pours his heart into everything. There are a lot of singers out now who are just making up songs with no meaning to them and the lyrics don't even make sense. People use samples from every ol' skool song and think they made a hit. But the truth is that they were already hits before. I love Max cause he keep it real and is a genuine singer/songwriter. He will be around for a long time and I plan to continually support him.

Maxdan

I wouldn't say it is my favorite song, because I feel at different times of my life I understand a song more than any other. The song I'm feelin' at the moment would have to be “DrownDeep: Hula” purely because it is such a sensual song which relaxes me and puts my mind at ease during this stressful period in my life (A-Level Exams).

Nuszim

All of Maxwell's songs are my favorite, but the one that has touched me the most is ”This Woman’s Work”. That song is performed so beautifully it makes me cry when I hear it. The fact that he; as a man would sing that song also touched me. Most men are reluctant to sing about such a topic, but not Maxwell, he is truly a model for all men and I love him for that.

“Submerge: Til We Become the Sun & Gravity: Push to Pull”. the 1st 1 is the most beautiful love song I have ever heard. the lyrics are magical and the soothing sound of his beautiful voice is calming. I also love the instrumentals. it reminds me of a time when I was deeply in love. it was like a revelation that something so perfect could exist and be mine. I felt blessed. the 2nd song is sultry, seductive, and just plain bad. I love it. although someone obsessively loving in that kind of way may seem scary, I can also see the other side of it. I have loved someone so completely like that, yet they didn't seem to notice I was there. there's a whole lot of genius piled into Maxwell’s sexy self and I can't wait until his next project. I listen to Embrya religiously. thanks for the time. kJ of Atlanta

"Drown Deep: Hula" from the Embrya cd. That so has just restarted a broken heart and spirit. The song has given me back my faith in relationships, that one man can love one woman and "Drown deep" in his partner and lover and friend and be content and satisfy.

Maxwell's “Whenever Wherever Whatever”

Jenna

“Sumthin Sumthin” makes me feel special. But “Submerge” reminds me what it is like to be in love. So I have to go w/ “Submerge”.

Nina

I really love all the Maxwell's song, but I think that in the Embrya album, my must favorites are “Luxury: Cococure”, ”Know These Things: Shouldn't You” and “Submerge: Til We Become the Sun”. I can't explain why, theses songs really speak to me!

Nour

My favorite song is all of them. He invokes special feelings and movements in me that I haven't felt in a long long time. I love him so!!!!!!

Takia Houston

It's sorta funny...when I first picked this topic I knew exactly which song I was gonna pick, but as I began typing the song changed. Then a minute later I thought of another song, then another. First I thought about "Till The Cops Come Knockin'" that's my favorite because that's the first song by Maxwell that I heard and that's what drew me in. Or I can say "Sumthin Sumthin" is my favorite because it reminds me of my visit to New York, or maybe I can write about "The Suite Theme" because by far that has got to be my favorite. That's the song I put on when I cut all the lights down low and just want to mellow out and it the song I put on when I'm feeling low and I want to forget about my problems. Wait a minute...I think I put on "Sumthin Sumthin: Mellosmoothe" when I want to do that. And don't let me start to talk about the songs off of Embrya cause that might add another paragraph or two. I guess what I'm trying to say in a round-about way is every song could be my favorite.

My ultimate song from Maxwell is "The Opus: Til the Cops Come Knockin" This song is the epitome of love, sensuality, romance and the ambience of what two people can feel for one another. The music is very seductive, urban and has a nostalgic flavor personally. When I hear in my car, hi-fi, Walkman and etc., I feel the same kind of overwhelming experience each and every time. The lyrics are exactly what a woman wants to hear, only if we can understand all the whispers going on in the backgrounds. But, this is truly one the songs that did with me and my love for the man and his music.

“Suite Lady (The Proposal Jam)” The words to this song are like a dream. It is exactly what I would want my lover to say to me when he proposes. The way Maxwell sings the song make me feel so uplifted. He reminds me that there are some good men in the world.

Eboni Love

Ooooo...this is a tough one. many, many of his songs have touched me in indescribable ways, but I’m going to go with “Know These Things: Shouldn't You” because it one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. It is frighteningly melancholy yet strangely lovely to behold. damn, I love that song!

K

My favorite songs would have to be “This Women's Work” and “Whenever Wherever Whatever”. They both give inspiration and lift up my spirit.

Jenna

“Gravity: Pushing to Pull”. . . this song is so hypnotizing. It moves your spirit and brings you into another realm. I've never experienced such a song like this one.

“Whenever Wherever Whatever” This song makes me feel like I'm flying. Flying on top of Maxwell's voice, very slowly and gentle. Like he doesn't want me to fall. But I do, as soon as the song ends.

Vinod D. Jagroep

MY FAVORITE SONG IS “SUITE LADY(PROPOSAL JAM)” BECAUSE IT REALLY SHOWS THE TRUE ESSENCE OF MAXWELL'S VOICE. I REALLY LIKE THE END WHEN HE HITS A REALLY HIGH NOTE. I JUST GO CRAZY WHEN HE DOES THAT. IT ALSO SHOWS THAT MAXWELL REALLY HAS A WAY WITH WORDS. I LIKE THE FACT THAT IT’S A SONG ABOUT LOVE AND MARRIAGE AND EVERYTHING THAT COMES ALONG WITH THAT.

Allison Reed

“Matrimony: Maybe You”

Cianni

“Whenever Whatever Wherever” and “This Woman's Work”
One day I'll meet Mr. Whenever he will give me and he will receive Whatever, Wherever. Because he will appreciate my Woman's Work.

Shannon

I can't think of the exact title but it's from Embrya: “Know These Things: Shouldn't You” - or something along those lines.

Charlene

The song that inspired me most was "Know These Things: Shouldn’t You." That song took all of my feelings of sorrow and depression and lifted them off of my chest. I actually started crying. That song is so beautiful and Maxwell does the best job singing it.

Deltrice

There is no way to name one song as my favorite Maxwell song. I will say this, his songs can calm the savage beast. They can make your spirits soar. The mood is instantly set when romance calls. His music is all things to me. Each one has it own meaning for me.

Wayne

“Fortunate” I like this song because, he sings to a woman loves and respects very much, and is saying that he is blessed....fortunate to have her.

Careresa

I could be here all night answering this question. I love ALL of his songs, but I especially love the way he remade Kate bush's song "This Woman's Work"

Brenda

The song that has touched my heart the most would be a tie between "Whenever..." and "Know These Things: Shouldn't You" Those 2 songs are dueling for my heart yall! I close my eyes and listen to the Live version of "Whenever..." and I see myself walking down and isle and profoundly wonderful love fills me completely. Overpowering and divine. I can only shake my head and smile. Then when I hear "Know These Things..." I have an incredibly melancholy or joyous feeling of being all that I need: Love, Light, Enlightenment, and Creativity. Whether its melancholy creativity or joyous creativity depends on the day I'm having or have had. Either way, those 2 songs will always have a special place in my heart.

Kemazz

My favorite song would have to be “Whenever Wherever Whatever”, I chose this because I had a love that I would bleed for, but I didn't get a chance to tell him that. It is better to love and lost than never to love again:) .

Tamira, Keeper of His Amorist

My favorite song would have to be "Fortunate", to me its saying that Maxwell is giving thanks to all of the beautiful black queens, and maybe saying that he's glad that we're the bearers of all life.

Tanisha

“DrownDeep: Hula”, would have to be my favorite song, at this SECOND. Mainly, probably most of his songs are my favorites, collectively. “Softly Softly” offered special meaning to me, and the remix of “Sumthin’ Sumthin’” on the Love Jones sound track has to be one of the most sensual songs I have ever heard.

Universal

My favorite song would have to be "Fortunate", to me its saying that Maxwell is giving thanks to all of the beautiful black queens, and maybe saying that he's glad that we're the bearers of all life.

Tanisha

“Drowndeep: Hula” is sexiest song on the cd. It gives me butterflies when I first listen to it.

Crystal

“Suitelady (The Proposal Jam)” I feel the message “Suitelady” is trying to deliver because it describes him reuniting with his perfect love.

Daria Wright

My favourite song is Whenever, wherever, whatever because it describes his immortal love to another girl. That is what I feel for my girlfriend. Whatever, baby... I love you.

D

“Reunion” is very nice, and I really enjoy “EverWanting: To Want You To Want To Want”; a good beat and he hits those notes that give you goosebumps. “DrownDeep:Hula” is truly beautiful, especially the instrumental part with the fluid guitar on top. “Sumthin' Sumthin'” is another. I love the verse after the instrumental bridge. Especially the note he reaches on Cool; very Earth, Wind & Fire. I like how he's not forceful, but smooth. Only if it's cool, lay here on top, I'll give every drop, but only if it's cool. The albums have a theme to them, and the music really represents it. All through Urban Hang Suite I feel like I'm talking, feeling and loving in a closed room, while Embrya embodies floating in water, down deep with that person you love. Thanks to God and Maxwell we have someone to carry on the soul singing of Marvin Gaye, Al Green and others, whose music not just sounds good, but feels right and precious.

Chris Courtheyn

My fav is “DrownDeep: Hula”, “This Woman’s Work” (though not his song, but I love how he sings it) and......too many to name

Shay

I don't have a favorite song. For this reason, I can't imagine not loving them all equally. Each song offers its own wisdom. Each all equally important. But if I have to chose, I would probably choose, “DrownDeep: Hula” just because he sounds so sincere, and desperate for the love he sings about.

Gloria

“THIS WOMAN'S WORK” “KNOW THESE THINGS” “DROWNDEEP: HULA” THESE SONGS REMIND ME OF THE TRUE LOVE I LOST, MY SOULMATE! NEVER LET YOUR MATE GO!!!! NO MATTER WHAT THE CIRCUMSTANCES! YOU MAY NEVER HAVE A SECOND CHANCE!!! AND YOU DEFINITELY WOULD NOT BE A BETTER SOUL IF YOU LET GO

Debra, Keeper of His Musze

I love them all. They inspire me and give me feed the way no others can. Most people think his music is sexual but they aren't feeling it. To me it's about love, God, and spirituality. Maxwell is one of those people who even though he's sexy can make you wonder of his purity that most men lack.

Trinette Johnson, Tsmoove

“Let’s Not Play the Game” is one of the best song I’ve heard in a long time

Aubrey

I consider all of Maxwell's songs my fav...but if I had to pick one, it would be “Ascension (Don't Ever Wonder)”. I feel like he's talking to me when he says "don't eva wonder". Makes me feel I am here for a reason and purpose and that there are great things in store for me, and lots of love to share.

Lee, maxfan4u@mindspring.com

My favorite song with Maxwell is “Whenever Wherever Whatever", live. It makes me feel so relaxed and I truly feel...LOVE!!! I fall inlovewith his sweet and beautiful voice every time I listen to it. Thank u Maxwell...for makin' me feel LOVE. peace.

K

“EACHHOUREACHSECONDEACHMINUTEEACHDAY: OFMYLIFE” THIS SONG CALLS OUT TO ME....IT IS ME!!! IT WILL REALLY TAKE TOO LONG TO GO INTO DETAIL, BUT TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT, JUST LISTEN TO THE SECOND PART OF THE SONG—“WITH EVERY OTHER BREATH I DROWN--U ALWAYS MAKE THE RAIN LIKE SUNSHINE!! IT'S LIKE I NEVER EVER DOUBTED ME, IT'S LIKE I'M ALMOST CLOSE TO DIGGIN' ME--U MADE WHAT I WAS MISSING BABY--ALL MINE...KEEP DOIN IT ON AND ON!!!”

HE MADE ME REACH INSIDE MYSELF AND SEARCH FOR ME--THE REAL ME!!! I LUV U MAX AND AM FOREVER INDEBTED TO YOU---THANK YOU FROM THE VERY DEPTHS OF MY SOUL!! BELL

Bell

My favorite song is “Till The Cops Come Knockin’” I really love that song. Too I really like that he really gave it his all on this song. Because the song sounds like he has been there before with somebody special and he was just pouring his heart out to that person.

Yeshiyah Sarah Eaton

“Reunion”, “DrownDeep: Hula”

Laura

“The Hush” on "Unplugged" CD. I chose that one because it touched my spirit so and that actual song helped me in a time when nothing else in the physical could. I still play it over and over and over. It says so many things. I like all of Max's music. He is just off the hinges. He and Prince should just get together and throw down.

Vandelon S. Bradford, vandelon.bradford@turner.com

“Sumthin` Sumthin`”...... “Ascension (Don’t Ever Wonder)”…all~track!!

Shanni Kim

I love the Embrya album. “DrownDeep: Hula”, “Everwanting”, “I'm You” and “Eachhoureachsecondeachminuteeachday: Of My Life”... are really great songs. My favs from The Urban Hang Suite is “Dancewitme”, “Reunion”, both themes and I really like the “Ascension (Don't Ever Wonder)” version from Unplugged. If I had to go for just one, it would definitely be between “DrownDeep” and “Everwanting”. I'm surprised “Everwanting” isn't a popular favorite. That song is as good as most to come out of the 90's. I also want to say thank you to Maxwell if you read this because a lot of 90's music isn't based on love but on "breaking stuff" and acceptable hatred; thanks for encouraging love and being a strong male figure that tells how to be a man: to love and give as fully and truthfully as possible.

Eugene Davis, Santa Cruz, Ca

I love “Til the Cops Come Knocking”. This song has touched me in a way that I know only a man such as Maxwell could do. When I first heard this song, I fell in Love with, not because of it's sexual nature, but because of the way it made me feel. I felt some kind of connection to Maxwell and what he was really saying about ‘Cops Knocking’. I could Feel Him and I knew just what he wanted when he was singing that song, I just wish that I could have been the one to give it him. Through this one song, he let me know that it's never too late to love again. And that when you do love again, make it the best that it could be. Peace, Shani
